Fresh Start | Dechrau Newydd

[cy]Dyma amser cyffrous. Hen bryd mae’n debyg i mi eich dal chi lan ar beth sydd wedi bod yn mynd ‘mlaen yn fy mywyd i. Mae rhai ohonoch yn gwybod yn barod fy mod i wedi mynd o’n hen swydd nôl yn fis mai, a fy mod i wedi treulio’r 3 mis diwethaf ar brosiectau eraill. Ond, yn ddiweddar, ddaru mi cael galwad gyda chynnig reit dda, a dyma fi’n penderfynu symud lawr i Lundain.

I ddechrau, do ni ddim yn rhy sicr am symud lawr ffordd ‘ma, gan fy mod i wedi creu bywyd bach neis lan yng Nghaer. Ond yn meddwl amdani, mi oedd hi’n edrych yn debyg fy mod i ddim yn mynd i allu aros yno a chael y fath o swydd oedd gen i ddiddordeb mewn. Hefyd, er bod hi byth yn neis gadael cylch agos o ffrindiau, gan ein bod ni ddim rhagor yn byw yn y 19eg ganrif, di’r ffrindiau ‘na byth yn gadel eich bywyd.

Felly, dwi di fod yn y swydd newydd nawr ers wythnos, ac mae’n rhaid i mi ddweud fy mod i’n hedrych ymlaen at gael fwy fewn i’r prosiectau newydd, a fydd y wythnosau nesaf yn cael ei threulio yn chwilio am rywle neis i fyw. Dwi hefyd wedi gweld cryn dipyn o deithiau tynnu lluniau byswn i yn hoffi mynychu, ac wedi cael cyfle i ddal lan gyda thipyn o hen ffrindiau (sioc fawr i mi oedd darganfod bod tipyn o dafarndai neis lawr ochrau yma!).

Fe gefais i hefyd fy mhrofiad gyntaf o’r ‘Genius Bar’ yn siop Apple yn Covent Garden. Ges i ddamwain bach gyda’n iPhone, a thorri’r sgrin yn ddrwg. Ar ôl galwad bach i’r siop, ddaru’r bobl yno ddweud wrthyf fod y ffôn dal dan warrant, a gan mai hwn oedd y tro gyntaf i fi fynd yno, fyswn i yn cael newid y ffon am un newydd am ddim! Diolch i chi bois, da chi’n ossym.

Fydd yr wythnosau nesaf yn brysur tuhwnt, gyda priodas i fynychu, tŷ i wagio, a thŷ arall i’w ddewis. Ar ôl distawrwydd y misoedd diwethaf, dwi’n edrych ymlaen at gael amser prysur. Dwi’n meddwl mai hwn fydd y dechrau newydd dwi angen.[/cy]

[en]Well, what an exciting time. It’s probably a good time to bring you up to speed with what’s been happening. Some of you already know, I parted ways with my old job back in May of this year, and have spent the past few months freelancing and pursuing other projects. Recently, I was approached for a pretty exciting opportunity, and as a result am relocating down to the London area.

I was initially quite reticent about relocating down here, since I’d put together a pretty nice life for myself up Chester way. Thinking about it some more though, it seemed that staying up that way was going to mean I wasn’t going to get the types of jobs I was interested in, unless I wanted to end up living in my car. In addition, whilst it’s not nice to move away from what is a tight-knit circle of friends, since we’re not living in the 19th century anymore, they don’t disappear from your life.

So, I’ve been at my job a week now, and it’s been great. I’m looking forward to getting stuck into some more projects, and the next few weeks are going to be spent trying to work out whereabouts I want to live (suggestions on areas welcome…). I’ve also seen several photo walks I’ve like to get involved in, and had a chance to catch up with a few friends in person (it turns out there are some REALLY nice pubs down this part of the world).

I also ended up having my first experience of the Mac Genius Bar at the Covent Garden Macstore. An accident during the move resulted in some damage to my iPhone screen (the bottom half near the homescreen was badly cracked and splintered). Having booked in that morning, I got down there and was told that since the phone was still in warranty, and this was my first visit for a repair, I could have it replaced for free. So, kudos Covent Garden Macstore. You guys are awesome.

The next few weeks will be pretty damned busy, with a wedding to attend, a house to empty and a new one to find. However, after the past few months, I’m really looking forward to the next few months of frenetic activity. I think this is the fresh start I need.[/en]

Are you suggesting that if it wasn’t your first visit, they would have charged you for a repair, despite it still being under warranty?

Paul – Honestly… no idea. There are reports of Apple extending warranties by 50 days or so as a surprise for customers. No idea if mine was one of those cases. The date he gave is I think is in the ballpark of the time I got the phone. Who knows!😀

    Llefenni – Diolch!

    Alex – Cheers dude🙂

  5. Jim says:

    Good luck down there mate!

Aye! As others have said – good for you! You shall have to give all us Earthlings a full update when we see you next!
